Weekly on Bosnian football

The articles in this website is the translation of the ones which are published in www.haberbosnak.com, the web portal of the Bosniak community in Turkey. There is a population of around 2 million living in Turkey who has a Bosnian/Bosniak descent. Haber Boşnak (Bosniak News) claims to carry news from Bosnia and Sandzak region (of partly in Serbia and partly in Montenegro) to the Bosniak community in Turkey.

The writer of those articles also writes his own blog on Bosnian Football Culture...

Since the second period of the season had started because of the heavy winter conditions, the 21st Week scheduled matches were played yesterday (April 11, Wednesday)

Çelik, who hosted the capital city team Sarajevo last week in Zenica and destroyed Sarajevo’s hope for a claim to continue the struggle of championship, was guest of Zeljeznicar, the other team of capital city. After the goal scored by Svraka at 6th minute, just in the beginning of the of the game, the first half ended 1-0 while offence of Zeljo kept silent for the next forty minutes. However, the rail workers glowed in the second half of the game. The Zeljo storm started by Jamak’s goal at 51st minute and calmed down by Svrako in 89th minute, who was the scorer of the first goal of his team and thus who scored his second and his teams fifth goal in the match. Not only by the two goals that he scored, but also with his brilliant game in the midfield, Muamer Svraka was the man of the match. (Photo: Oslobodjenje)

Since Şiroki Brijeg also had a home 2-0 victory over Velez, the difference between Zeljo and Şiroki Brijeg remained four points.

Borac was third and Sarajevo was fourth in the table before the matches of 21st week. However, Sarajevo had an easy away 3-1 victory over Kozara with the excellent game of Asmir Suljiç, and Borac had an away 1-0 defeat against Zrinjski. After those results, Borac is currently the fourth in ranking and FK Sarajevo is third, which approved our prediction. At this point, if we will say that the struggle for the title of Bosnian Premier League is between Zeljo and Şiroki Brijeg, it will not be wrong.

The bottom of the table was warmed up last weekend after the victory of Slavija over Kozara, but an expected defeat of them in Leotar away match, the relegation struggle cooled off a bit. Kozara and Slavija are still the main candidates of relegation. Leotar Trebinje, the champion of the 2002/2003 when the Bosnian Serb, Croat and Bosniak teams began to play in the same competition since the war, had risen to 12th rank on the table after the defeat of Sloboda and GOŞK.

The results of the matches played in the Bosnian Premier League in the 21st week are as follow:
Zeljeznicar: 5– Çelik Zenica: 0
Olimpik Sarajevo: 2 – Zvijezda Gradaçac: 0
Zrinjski Mostar: 1 – Borac Banja Luka: 0
